Garoto (born Anibal Augusto Sardinha) was a Brazilian guitarist, songwriter and performer. He was an important figure in the early development of samba and Bossa Nova, and was one of the first musicians to play the guitar as a solo instrument in Brazil. Garoto’s technical proficiency and lyrical touch on the instrument, combined with his sensitivity and musicality, earned him a place in the pantheon of Brazil’s greatest guitarists. His influence can still be felt today in the music of many contemporary Brazilian musicians.
